Was one of the key games of the DS line-up when the system was revealed at the Electronic Entertainment Expo last May, and it was, again, a huge focus for at today's Gamers Summit, where the company put the near final version of the demo cartridge on display for the press to get their hands around it.As many people noted with the new screenshots, the game has changed around since its original showing a few months ago. The game looks similar to the E3 build, and that's no insult because it was definitely a beautiful thing seeing the Metroid Prime world running on the small screen. Graphics have definitely received a slight tweak, mostly in the amount of things running on the screen. There are more enemies and things to shoot in this build, and shows how the single player game will work when the actual game ships in 2005.The biggest change is, obviously, the way the game controls. The default control goes away from the 'tap screen to shoot' function of the E3 build.

Instead, it's now more PC mouse style by moving the game screen up to the top screen, and making the touch screen simply the 'mouselook' control that's familiar to anyone who's played a FPS on the computer. I heard one person complain that there's no 'inverse' option for the 'mouselook' default setting of the touch screen; in other words, he wanted Samus to look up when moving down on the DS screen. Personally I think that would make the game feel retarded in action, but hey, some people like the inverse way, and should actually consider this feedback for the final build. Personally, I would like to see the ability to adjust sensitivity of the touch screen, as, to me, it didn't seem to turn Samus fast enough when moving the stylus across the screen.There were three modes of play in the demo build, the same amount that will be in the cartridge when it ships with the system.

The training missions give players a taste of the single player options in the full game. The Multiplayer modes are a nice taste of deathmatch, with maps that have been optimized specifically for two player matches, three player matches, and four player matches. The networking was near flawless at the show, though there was no way to actually drop out of a match safely.the only way you could quit was to power off the system. There's also a morph ball racing challenge where players zoom around a specific, laid out path and try to get the fastest time.also showed off a neat little treat: the DS, like any system with enough storage space, can play full-motion video on both screens at the same time.
The team had put together a trailer that told a story in action, using both of the screens to show different perspectives of the action sequence. It was a very clever idea, especially since we've previously only seen FMV on the DS that used both screens as one giant vertical screen.which Metroid Prime Hunters also uses for its cutscenes.Overall, I liked the DS Metroid Prime game, but yes, controlling the game comfortably does seem to be the biggest concern. I don't think it'll ever be possible to play the game without some strain on the hand, but some might be more forgiving about this element than others, simply because the game looks and plays pretty darn great as it is.
